A private, nonprofit research and educational institution, Mount Washington Observatory maintains an interactive science and weather museum in North Conway, NH, a research facility in Bartlett, NH, and the legendary weather station atop 6,288' Mount Washington. Staffed continuously since the organization's founding in 1932, the mountaintop station recorded the world record surface wind speed of 231mph in 1934, helping the mountain earn it's title "Home of the World's Worst Weather."
